John and Ruth Chan are CBM Strategic Associates focusing on Joint Pioneer Outreach. They work with Friends of Mission to Chinese in Germany (FMCD) serving the local Chinese Diaspora. Their ministry focuses on the large number of students from mainland China studying in Germany, bringing the good news and love of Jesus Christ to these future professionals of China, the world’s most populous yet still largely unreached nation. 

John was born in Shanghai, China and immigrated to Canada via Hong Kong in 1982. He accepted the Lord in 1983 and was an active member of the Chinese Christian Fellowship in the University of Manitoba where he graduated with a B.Comm Degree. He worked for nine years in Toronto in the Mutual Fund industry and was an active lay leader at Logos Baptist Church (Mississauga), before being called to full-time pastoral ministry. In 2003, he completed his M.Div at Tyndale Seminary and served as the English Ministry pastor at Logos Baptist. In 2007, he was ordained by Logos Baptist Church.

Ruth was born and raised in Hong Kong. She accepted the Lord at the age of 12 and was an active member of the Hong Kong Chinese Church of Christ. She earned her undergraduate degree in Economics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a MBA from the University of Toronto. Ruth is completing her M.T.S. degree from Tyndale Seminary. Ruth also worked in the Investment industry while serving as a lay leader at Logos Baptist Church.

In May 2005, while on a CBM short-term mission trip to the Czech Republic, John and Ruth felt the Lord’s calling to serve the Chinese Diaspora in Germany.
