CBM has signed a new three-year agreement with Emmanual Baptist Church (Iglesia Bautista Emmanuel) in El Salvador, a partnership that began in 1990. IBE has made tremendous impact in San Salvador through ministries of housing reconstruction, water resourcing, sustainable agriculture and micro-credit loans towards small business.
This new agreement will focus on integral mission among the poor in the region of Usulutan. As part of this partnership, we anticipate engaging Canadian Baptists in areas of church-based sustainable community development. Our STEP (Serving, Training and Energizing Partnerships) churches play a particularly vital role in this renewed pledge.
“We want to affirm our commitment with you,” says Miguel Castro, IBE’s pastor. “And more than signing our new agreement, we want to offer our best effort to share with churches in our Baptist family in Canada.”
Partnership is at the very core of how CBM functions. It is through mutual respect and sharing in a common goal that unites us with countries working through the complex issues of conflict, poverty, disease and environmental degradation. We celebrate these relationships as we work towards greater hope and positive change at the community level.
